Anina Day Center

“Children's House, Don Bosco”

Anina is the town 6 km from Bradet that hosts the seat of the Municipality.

It is a town that, after having lived off the economy of a now closed mine, is now depopulated by emigration, and with a significant presence of Roma who are barely integrated with the Romanian population.

Many are the school-age children who abandon school, thus destroying their future.

Many are the people and families in need who have very little or no help from the institutions, due to lack of resources.

After Bradet’s initiative, the association “Il Giocattolo" decided to focus its attention on Anina.

Thanks to the generosity of a benefactor, the association has come into possession of a historic building that served as a restaurant in the old mine and over time, thanks to significant financial support from the German association “Renovabis”, it is completely renovating it.

The goal is to use it, and we have been doing so since the beginning, as a day center dedicated mainly to children and young people in serious social situations.

There are many tasks that we are already carrying out or are about to carry out:

For children aged 6-14:

management of afternoon courses for after-school (help with homework), drawing, English, geography, history, music (piano and guitar but also listening education), sports, folk dance (to not lose traditions and to unite through customs), other courses depending on the needs and availability of suitable teachers.

For children who have never been to school:

management of remedial courses to compensate for lost years.

For children aged 2/5:

construction and management of a nursery, especially dedicated to Roma children (but together with non-Roma).

For children aged 5/13:

construction of a small playground, sports activities, including the creation of a small football team, trips and excursions to get to know the surroundings, to sensitize them to respect nature and even further, to see for example the sea, never seen by many of them, organization of summer camps, with the help of Italian volunteers, organizing intelligent and educational games.

For children, teenagers and adults:

construction and management of the "open-air cinema" (there is no cinema in Anina) for the screening of films and documentaries that are indirectly educational.

For teenagers/adults:

creation of a laboratory with some equipment for teaching simple trades (craft activities), knitting, sewing, modeling, computers, etc...

For children, teenagers and adults:

constitution and management of an inter-religious meeting point to provide - to those who believe - a catechism for children. A sort of oratory, managed by religious personnel.

For adults:

creation and management of a meeting place for adults for courses and meetings on food education, courses and meetings on health education for the prevention of diseases (importance of personal hygiene and environments), literacy courses, mothers and/or pregnant women who, not having an education, do not know how to behave (unfortunately we have many examples of the damage that comes from an inadequate pregnancy).

For Romanians and Roma:

Creating opportunities for meeting and integration between the Romanian and Roma populations, aiming above all to have children and young people of the two ethnic groups play together, and to cement a respect and friendship to carry into adulthood.
